Strange Fruit was written in 1939.
This song was not at all what I had expected to be honest. It's obviously condemning racism in the south and the tortures that African Americans experienced. It really is quite emotional.
The song is pretty reliable considering it was written around the same time as the Rosa Parks movement, so segregation was already happening, and much worse in the south as the song portrays. The singer uses great emotion to really tell how she feels about lynchings and racism. Her tone is just so powerful.
I do like this song, much even my surprise. It has such a powerful message that I can't help but like it.
It allows me to learn about the Civil rights Movement and Rights of African Americans.
