Do Re Mi was written, also by Woodie Guthrie, in 1937.
This song is about the Dust Bowl and how people had strived to get past it and go to California. However, the DO in the song is actually like DOUGH as in money. Many people tried to cross the country. People needed money to go to California, and if you didn't have it, then you might as well turn around.
This song is pretty accurate because the dust bowl did in fact happen around the time that the song was written, I think. So Woodie Guthrie probably noticed this trend continually happening. He does have a nice play on the word DO.
I don't like this song, or this type of music. Its so slow.
It allows me to learn about the Dust Bowl and the economic struggles everyone faced during that time
