The Meat Inspection Act of 1906
After The Jungle was published in 1906, the public was disgusted. The book brought to attention the disgusting conditions of which the meat is in and the mislabeling done. The public was horrified and called for reform and thus the Meat Inspection Act of 1906 was born! It decreed that meat shipped over state lines were subject to federal regulation. This was used to drive out smaller businesses.
The Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906
This act prevented the adulteration and mislabeling of foods and pharmaceuticals. So you better get that name right!
