Amendments to the Constitution

16th Amendment (1913)

The sixteenth Amendment granted an income tax. It began with incomes over $3,000. The revenue taken in is enormous. This helped tackle the "triple wall of privilege (the tariff, the banks, the trusts)

The 17th Amendment (1913)

After the corruption between senators and big corporations was known, Progressives wanted direct election of senators. The 17th Amendment established just that.

The 18th Amendment (1919)

PROHIBITION!!!! This Amendment prohibited the sale of alcohol in Unites States. Because of the hard times of WWI and the rationing of things already, many people became enraged over the alcohol in the nation. They worked to prohibit it and did. It was repealed by the 21st Amendment.

The 19th Amendment (1920)

After Years of campaigning and hope. The 19th Amendment granted women the right to vote in 1920. This shows once and for all the increasing impact women had on politics and society.
